📖 Description
xii, 354pp. In mid-green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Boards just a little rounded at corners and spine ends, edges have a thin strip of fading. Upper text block edge very slightly dust marked, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. In its original, illustrated dust jacket, which is very slightly bumped at spine ends. Dust wrapper now protected in a Brodart-style sleeve. The early years of the British South Africa Company are usually viewed in relation to the drive and ambition of Cecil John Rhodes - his successes and dramatic fall from grace after the Jameson Raid have preoccupied many. This volume shows that these dramatic characters and events have obscured and distorted the early years of the company, and Galbraith argues that the British Government and the Colonial Office were at least equally at fault and accessories to the actions with which Rhodes is associated.
