<p><p>First people's edition, 1st thus. (originally published in 1865). 178pp [4]. With tissue-guarded monochrome frontispiece and a further 41 illustrations in text, all by Sir John Tenniel. In pictorial green cloth-covered boards. 12mo. Boards worn and soiled, rubbed at edges and spine joints, rounded on corners and spine ends. Mild toning and marks on endpapers, else faint and occasional spotting, mostly on prelims. Tissue guard tanned around edges. Two previous owner's names on front free endpaper, one crossed out. Front hinge cracked creating mild loosening of first signature only. Gutter cracked between pp93-100. The first people's (cheaper) edition of Alice in Wonderland, published in 1887.
