A souvenir programme for a production of J M Barrie's 'The Little Minister' (based on his novel of the same name) at the Theatre Royal Market on 6 November 1897, the first performance of the play. Stiff red card covers, closed with a red silk ribbon (boards shipped and rubbed at edges with minor loss at spine ends). Internally a little toned. On the front paste down is a cast list and details on the play and performance. The rear board has paper flaps top and bottom, folded over a portfolio of loosely inserted prints. 15 of these prints show drawings by Phil May of characters in the play; there is also a single set of portraits (of J M Barrie, Cyril Maude, Winifred Emery and the Theatre proprietor, Frederick Harrison; and one further plate with a photograph of the Theatre Royal (17 plates in all). The first plate is a little toned in the middle, the rest are in fine condition.
