Silk moire endpapers, glittering with gilding. All edges coloured. Illuminated title page, captioned tissue guard over illuminated frontispiece. Silk ribbon marker (a little frayed at end). A stunningly beautiful volume. Boards very slightly rubbed at extreme corners and spine tips. Three scuff marks on front endpapers. Previous owner's neat inscription, dated 1885, on half title. One of the fold out illustrations is a little creased. An authoritative account of the history and development of German literature. Text in German, gothic script throughout. .
