Each volume has an ex libris bookplate with the motto 'sibi et amicis' (for them and their friends) on the front paste down. Some marginal toning and mild marks on endpapers. Title pages have suffered from transfer from engraved frontispieces. A handsome complete set in very good condition.

The work is not credited but is widely thought to have been edited by a young George Borrow (1803-1881), the Victorian writer, linguist, traveller and horse-whisperer.
