📖 Description
vi, 78pp. B/w plate illustrations. Original maroon cloth boards with coloured endpapers. Slight sunning to spine of dust jacket, else fine. Princess Charlotte, only child of George IV, died in the early hours of 6 November 1817, a few hours after giving birth to a still-born son. The cause of her death was unclear and many theories have been put forward since. In the mid 20th century, a descendant of Sir Richard Croft, the princess's accoucheur, found in family archives a series of letters and other manuscripts relating to the Princess's pregnancy, confinement and death. This volume contains some of those letters and manuscripts, along with the assessment of contemporary gynecologists and obstetricians. 8vo.
