📖 Description
4 page leaflet. Lightly discoloured with a couple of nicks and creases on edges. An appreciation of composer Amy Woodforde-Finden produced on the occasion of the unveiling of her memorial at Hampsthwaite Church, near Harrogate on 15 April 1923. Gives a brief overview of her life and musical works - she is perhaps best remembered for A Lover in Damascus and Kashmiri Song, from Four Indian Love Lyrics by Laurence Hope. Resident in India for some years, Her songs are noted for their sentimentality, their romantic fluidity and a particular blend of British, middle-class sensibility with an Asian pastiche. Her connection with Nidderdale and Hampsthwaite, the site of her memorial, is a tragic one - her husband came from the area and her stepsons, who predeceased her, where buried in the churchyard there, along with several other family members.
