📖 Description

252pp. Laminated card wrappers (very gently worn on edges, a couple of very mild marks). Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Signed and inscribed on the half title page, 'Ted, with best wishes from Victor, 1978'. Volume from the library of Edward 'Ted' Willis (1914-1992), the political activist and British playwright, novelist and screenwriter, perhaps best known for writing the television series Dixon of Dock Green. Willis was awarded a peerage in 1963, becoming Lord Willis, Baron of Chislehurst. Combines an account of the early years of the Society of Authors with that of the evolution of professional authorship from the 15th until the start of the 20th century, ending with the Copyright Act 1911.

Signed Books, writing, Society of Authors
